About Shirley D. Cross-Taylor
I am a native Oregonian, now living in Texas, who became serious about photography in the early 80's, but had always been artistic, drawing and painting from an early age and trying to get 'arty' photos with my Brownie camera.
Mostly, I taught myself by reading and trial and error. In the early '90's I took the New York Institute of Photography course and graduated, which really fine-tuned my skills.
I have won international awards, the most notable being two gold medals in the Austrian Super Circuit, and a medal in the South Africa Super Circuit. I won First Prize in the Still Life Category of Legion Photo Paper's Contest. In 2005 I won Second place in Popular Photography's Annual Contest, Nature Category. I got the cover and an article in a prestigious German black and white magazine, and a lengthy article and multiple of my photos published in a Chinese magazine. I now have a Nikon D80, but have hundreds of slides still to scan.
An incurable romantic, I love fantasy and sci-fi, as well as flowers and wild natural settings.
